Curriculum Characteristics

Our Nursery School places Child-centered approach as our philosophy, using hands-on, small-group teaching to match the growth and developmental needs of children. We use Whole Language Approach activities to provide learning experiences related to daily life scenarios, enriched for sensory exploration and joy.

Emotional Education
Healthy emotional development has long-term influences to every aspect of growth in children, in adaptation to the environment and developing good interpersonal relations.
Our school has providing a 20-session course "Growing with Self-Esteem - A Parent Education Project", developed by the TWGHs experienced Social Workers and Educational Psychologists, with aims to enable parents establish responsive relationships with children, to master child discipline and to develop children's self-esteem and confidence.
Our school also have stationing Social Worker, to support  parents with techniques and methods in nurturing children and addressing difficulties and needs in parent-child interactions.  Regular Parent Education seminars are organized to meet parents' need in nurturing children.
Whole Language Approach
Our school adopts Whole Language Approach, integrating children's ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing. We use both Chinese and English story books to cultivate children's reading competence, interests and habits, and to connect with daily life and learning themes. There are six major learning areas: Physical Fitness and Health, Language, Early Childhood Mathematics, Nature and Living, Self and Society and Arts and Creativity.
Children's Project Approach
Our school advocates child directive Project study, Through multi-exploratory activities, visits, sharing, information collection, food tasting and more, children are enhanced in knowledge, skills and disposition over related topic. Such also cultivates children's active exploration, self-motivated interpersonal social techniques, as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Perceptual Motor Activities
Children love to explore and develop their five senses, hands and legs to acquire knowledge and skills in their daily living. Our school use enriching package of sensori-motor and perceptual motor home activities for parents and children 「感知肌能親子家課」, developed by our TWGHs team of psychologist, special early childhood practitioner, Therapists and curriculum officer , to enhance acuity of children's through sense play which also build emotional stability, concentration, bodily control, including muscle endurance, stability of arms and wrists, mobility of fingers and hand-eye coordination.
Building Practical Life Skills
Since 2011, our school has introduced the education philosophy of Montessori Approach to design the environment, to build children's skills in self care in daily life. The children will learn to take care of themselves and their environment through manipulation of teaching aids,  establishing their sequencing, hand-eye coordination and concentration.
Fostering creativity, Whole-person development
Since 2009, our school has been the campus partner of the 'Leap! Body Education Program', as initiated and funded by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation, developed by Taiwan Cloud Gate Dance School for the aged 4 to 6 children (K2 and K3) increase their body awareness through play, to release their energy through music, and to create different bodily shapes using their senses. With the cooperation with others, they further learn to respect and understand others. 
Starting from July 2014, TWGHs was appointed to operate the Program, with continuous funding support from The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation on consultation of the Taiwan Cloud Gate Dance School.

History and Development

The centre, formerly known as Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Oi Man Day Nursery, commenced operation in 1978 to provide child care and educational services for children aged 2 to 6 in Oi Man Estate. It was renamed Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lo Wong Pik Shan Day Nursery in March 1983 after a donation from Mr. Kenneth Lo Hung-cheuk and Mr. Albert Lo Kam-wing in support of its service development. Upon implementation of Harmonization of Pre-primary Services, the centre was registered under Education Bureau as Kindergarten-cum-Chlidren Care Centre, namely Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Lo Wong Pik Shan Nursery School, with effect from 1 September 2005.
